Classical WNIU Introduces a Variety of New, National Programs A Refreshed Program Schedule Takes Effect July 1, 2017

WNIU 90.5 FM is pleased to present many new programs as part of its continuing effort to provide northern Illinois continuous access to the best in classical music programming without interruption.

After a recent survey of listeners, WNIU continues to demonstrate its commitment to adapting to their preferences by responding directly to listener feedback.
Beginning July 1, 2017, the station will introduce a variety of programs from across the country to bring listeners closer to world-class music from the region and across the country.

WNIU will present the following new lineup:
Exploring Music is a one-hour show hosted by Bill McGlaughlin, a musician, conductor, composer and broadcaster every Monday through Friday at 6 p.m. This program delves into a wide assortment of topics in classical music, ranging from composer biographies to explorations of various cultures, musical styles, and time periods.
Encore is a locally produced, occasional series which airs select Monday evenings at 7 p.m. WNIU continues to expand this program by collaborating with music organizations in the region. Hosted by Eric Hradecky, Encore presents a performance and commentary from classical musicians.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast Series features live concert performances recorded at Symphony Center, alongside selections from the orchestra’s expansive catalog of recordings. Listen Tuesdays from 7 – 9 p.m. for the fascinating stories found inside the music as well as insights from the performers themselves.
New York Philharmonic This Week is hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin and includes recent performances by the orchestra and interviews with musicians, guest artists and conductors. This program will air every Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m.

Every Thursday from 7 -9 p.m., WNIU will present City Symphonies, featuring music
from world-class regional orchestras on a seasonal basis:
 Summer: The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
 Fall: The Dallas Symphony Orchestra
 Winter: The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra
 Spring: The Los Angeles Philharmonic

Select Fridays from 7 – 9 p.m. will be dedicated to Friday Festival, a showcase for
limited-run music series with guests and composers as they become available.
WNIU will present guests and composers of the highest caliber from the Santa Fe
Chamber Music Festival as part of this series.

The American Opera Radio Series features great performances from opera
companies across the United States. WNIU will air this series every Saturday night
from 7 – 9 p.m., between seasons of the Metropolitan Opera’s Radio Broadcasts.
Staci Hoste, Director and General Manager of the station, celebrates the
program changes: “I’m particularly proud to offer these new programs. Not only
do they respond directly to the feedback we’ve collected from listeners, the
people who support the service, but they strengthen WNIU as the only source for
quality, uninterrupted classical music in the region. I thank our listeners, donors

managed by Northern Public Radio, the broadcast arm of Northern Illinois
